SIM and TF card slots in a 1.7 kg chassis is the point of the UPC-206F. It is the small member of the family — 195 × 160 × 42.8 mm — and it still carries both slots for a 4G module, four serial channels (3× RS232 and 1× RS485), HDMI and VGA outputs and dual Intel I210 Gigabit LAN. That combination is what a remote panel, a kiosk back-box or a machine cabinet needs when there is no cable to run but there are still a few devices to poll.

Why a SIM card slot fits in a 1.7 kg chassis

UPC-206F box PC — Cellular without a dongle, in the smallest chassis we build

Cellular without a dongle, in the smallest chassis we build

The UPC-206F has a SIM card slot and a TF card slot so a 4G module can be fitted inside the enclosure: the SIM stays where it was installed, and the TF card gives the box local storage for buffering readings while the link is down or for holding images from an attached camera. The box then reaches the network over cellular from a cabinet, a kiosk back-box or a remote panel that has power and devices but no data run. Because the module and both slots are inside the chassis rather than on a USB stick, nothing is exposed to being knocked out, and the antenna can be routed out through a gland to wherever the signal is.

  • 1× SIM card slot inside the chassis for a 4G module
  • 1× TF card slot for local buffering and camera storage
  • No USB cellular dongle inside the cabinet
  • 195 × 160 × 42.8 mm, 1.7 kg — fits where a full-size box will not
  • Wi-Fi / Bluetooth available as well, plus 2× Intel I210 LAN
  • 1× Mini PCIe socket for the cellular or wireless module

Four serial channels, so a remote site still gets its data

A cellular box is only useful if it can talk to the things on site. The UPC-206F carries 3× RS232 and 1× RS485 on DB9: three channels for meters, controllers and instruments, and one RS485 channel that can carry a multi-drop chain of devices on a single twisted pair. It also keeps HDMI and VGA outputs for a local display, which is how a technician commissions the site without a laptop.

  • 3× RS232 + 1× RS485, standard DB9 shells
  • RS485 for a multi-drop chain on one pair
  • HDMI + VGA for local commissioning and service
  • 6× USB in total (5× 2.0 + 1× 3.0 on the J1900 build)
  • Dual Intel I210 Gigabit LAN for the local network

Two Celeron builds, and the USB mix changes with them

The documented standard build is the Intel® Celeron® J1900 with 4GB DDR3L and a 128GB mSATA SSD — part number C8.02.01.019, the row the datasheet numbers. The Celeron J6412 is offered as a platform option with DDR4L memory up to 32GB, and it changes the USB mix: the J1900 build carries 5× USB 2.0 and 1× USB 3.0, the J6412 build 2× USB 2.0 and 4× USB 3.0. Choose by whether the site needs many low-speed devices or a few fast ones.

  • J1900 standard build C8.02.01.019: 4GB DDR3L, mSATA SSD 128GB
  • J1900 USB mix: 5× USB 2.0 + 1× USB 3.0
  • J6412 option USB mix: 2× USB 2.0 + 4× USB 3.0, DDR4L up to 32GB
  • 12V DC (9–36V optional), AT / ATX startup, fanless aluminium
  • CE / FCC / BIS to EN 55032 & EN 55035, ODM BIOS and OEM branding

FAQ

UPC-206F frequently asked questions

Questions about the SIM and TF card slots and the 4G module, the difference between the J1900 and J6412 builds, the 195 × 160 × 42.8 mm chassis, the four serial channels and the 1.7 kg weight.

What are the SIM and TF card slots on the UPC-206F used for?

Two different jobs, both served from inside the enclosure. The SIM card slot identifies the 4G module on the mobile network: with the module fitted and a data SIM from the local operator, the box joins the network directly, which is how a remote panel, a kiosk back-box or a machine cabinet with no data run still reports its data. The TF card slot is local storage — buffering readings while the link is down, keeping a rolling log across a power cut, or holding images from an attached camera. Keeping both inside the chassis means neither card can be knocked out of a port.

How is the UPC-206F different from the other cellular model in the family?

Size, compute and storage headroom. All three cellular models carry SIM and TF slots. The UPC-206F is the compact one: 195 × 160 × 42.8 mm and 1.7 kg, with a Celeron J1900 standard build, four serial channels and 6 USB ports. The larger cellular models put the same slots in a 337 × 160 × 53.2 mm chassis with a 10th Gen or 12th Gen Core processor, more USB 3.0 and higher memory ceilings — for sites that process data locally before transmitting. Pick by footprint and compute, not by connectivity.

What is the difference between the J1900 and the J6412 build?

The processor generation, the memory type and the USB mix. The J1900 build (part number C8.02.01.019) ships with 4GB DDR3L and a 128GB mSATA SSD and carries 5× USB 2.0 and 1× USB 3.0. The J6412 option runs DDR4L up to 32GB and carries 2× USB 2.0 and 4× USB 3.0, which suits sites with a camera or fast storage. The serial channels, the displays, the SIM slot and the chassis are identical.

How many serial ports does the compact box have?

Four: 3× RS232 and 1× RS485, all on standard DB9 sockets. That is more serial connectivity than most boxes this size offer, and the RS485 channel is the one that matters on site — it is multi-drop, so a chain of meters, inverters or sensors can run on a single twisted pair instead of one cable per device. The three RS232 channels take the instruments that stayed RS232.

What display outputs does it provide?

1× HDMI and 1× VGA, driven simultaneously. On a remote or cellular site the display output is mostly a commissioning tool: a technician plugs in a monitor, checks the application and the modem status, and leaves. Keeping VGA means the older industrial monitors and long analogue cable runs already on site still work without an adapter.

What is the box used for in practice?

Remote and semi-attended installations where the footprint matters: kiosk back-boxes and information panels, remote pumping and metering cabinets, unmanned machine cabinets that report over cellular, telecom and utility equipment rooms, and retrofit panels where an older controller is being replaced inside an existing enclosure of limited depth.

Can it work without any wired network at all?

Yes, that is the design case — but the box does not force the choice. With a 4G module and a SIM fitted it operates entirely over the mobile network; with the two Intel I210 Gigabit ports in use it runs on a wired LAN instead. Most installations use both: the wired port for the local devices and the cellular link as the route out, or as a fallback when the wired path fails.

What are the dimensions, power and mounting?

195 × 160 × 42.8 mm and 1.7 kg, milled from high-strength aluminium alloy. Power is 12V DC on a 3-pin pluggable terminal block with 9–36V DC optional, and startup is selectable between AT and ATX. It mounts on a wall bracket or a VESA plate, which is how it usually goes into a kiosk or a panel.

What temperature range and approvals does the compact model hold?

It is fanless: no fan, no filter, and no air path drawing cabinet dust across the boards. Operating temperature is 0–50 ℃ as standard with −40–70 ℃ optional, storage is −10–60 ℃ and humidity is 10%–90% non-condensing. Certifications are CE, FCC and BIS to EN 55032 and EN 55035, the factory is ISO 9001:2015, and ODM covers custom BIOS, boot-on-LOGO and OEM branding.
